A heartwarming surprise awaited UTC alum Lauren Cardenas when she walked into her DuPont Elementary School music room on Friday, Feb. 28. Members of UTC’s Music Educators Social Society student organization, accompanied by the group’s faculty advisor—Associate Professor Ali Allerton—had come to DuPont to present her with more than $1,000 raised to support her classroom. The visit, staged under the pretense of observing her in the school, left Cardenas both shocked and overjoyed as she accepted the generous gift.
UT Leadership Institute comes to Chattanooga
The UT Leadership Institute recognizes and trains leaders within the UT System to develop their skills and understanding of leadership’s role in higher education. Approximately 50 participants from UT institutions and administrative units are invited to attend.
Summer blast: UTC’s Challenger STEM Learning Center relaunches summer camp
UTC’s Challenger STEM Learning Center is hosting day camps for children throughout the summer. Starting in June, rising second to sixth graders in the Challenger Exploration Camp will have the opportunity to participate in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) challenges, rocket launches and explorations of space and Earth.
Riding the RAIL to better school psychologist assistance
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga School Psychology program is bringing a new kind of railroad to school districts across Tennessee with the Rural Assessment Intervention Library (RAIL) System. Beginning later this year, the RAIL System will give rural school psychologists the chance to access assessments they need to properly diagnose students so they can provide adequate services and support.

Learning, growing and leading together at the UTC Children’s Center
In November, six UTC Health and Physical Education students taught physical education lessons at the UTC Children’s Center at Brown Academy. These lessons taught children the importance of taking care of their bodies and finding happiness through physical activity.
Leading with purpose: Dr. John Harbison’s commitment to service, learning and leadership
On Monday, Nov. 11, Dr. John Harbison will be the keynote speaker at UTC’s annual Veterans Day Luncheon, a celebration of the veterans and military-affiliated students, faculty and staff at the University. At the beginning of the 2024-2025 academic year, approximately 1,160 veterans, military-affiliated students, spouses and dependents of veterans were enrolled at UTC.
Blue and Gold Preview: Future Mocs get a glimpse of UTC
Hundreds of prospective students and their families explored UTC during Blue and Gold Preview Day. In addition to campus tours, information sessions and an application workshop, UTC faculty, advisors and current students set up booths in the Aquatic and Recreation Center. Representatives from each academic department shared insights and answered questions from prospective students and their families.

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Challenger STEM Learning Center hosted its second-ever STEAMagination Festival on Saturday, Oct. 12, an event designed for students in grades K-8 and their families.
